About the Nursery Programme:
A Nursery is the best way to introduce children aged 4–6 years to Gaelic games in a fun, safe and engaging environment. The programme is specifically designed for coaches who will be delivering nursery sessions within their club, and it places enjoyment, inclusion and positive early experiences at the heart of everything we do.
The Nursery Programme is all about fun, being actively involved in exciting, age-appropriate activities, and supporting the development of children’s movement and motor skills. Through play-based activities, children are encouraged to run, jump, throw, catch, balance and strike — developing the Fundamental Movement Skills that act as the building blocks for future skill development in our games.
For many children, and indeed for their parents or guardians, the Nursery Programme is their first introduction to sport and physical activity in a planned and structured environment. It may also be their first experience of your club, making the role of the nursery coach vital in creating a welcoming, positive and enjoyable atmosphere that encourages lifelong participation.
Completing this course (in conjunction with Garda Vetting/Access NI clearance and completion of a Safeguarding 1 workshop) allows a participant to become an assistant coach at their club nursery. This programme is a Gaelic Games family initiative, meaning it covers all codes across the Gaelic Games family, not just Camogie. The ICGG course must be attended by anyone who wants to coach outside of the nursery section.
