Clare 1-08 v 0-05 Kilkenny.
The hosts made Clare work all the way for this win. It was a must win game for both who had lost on their first day out.
In two low scoring halves Clare made better use of the wind during the second period. And only pulled away in the last 10 minutes where they dominated and resulted in converting that dominance scoring 1-03 during that period.
Clare led at the break by a single point 0-04 to 0-03. The Clare scores coming from both Jennifer Daly and Muireann Daffy getting a brace each.
Kilkenny levelled shortly after the restart with Tierney Hegarty from a free putting Clare ahead again to be followed by a similar score from Kilkenny. And so it stayed for the next ten minutes. Candice Brennan looked to have broken the deadlock only to have a goal disallowed for square ball. The crucial goal eventually came and fell to the Clare side when Emma Considine shot to dip the ball to top left corner. Clare then pushed on after the relieving score with Maeve Brady, Emma Considine and Dearbhaille McMahon all getting on the score sheet.
It was a deserved win for Clare who’s defence held out a strong Kilkenny onslaught for the second half. Johanna Fogarty, Amy Shannon and Hannah Minogue doing very well in the full back line with a reliable Roisin Quilligan behind them.
