Scariff Ogonnelloe 1-6 Kilkishen/Bodyke 0-05

It was truly a 'masterclass' in resilience as the Scarriff Ogonnelloe and Kilkishen Bodyke teams met on a very wet and cold evening last Thursday. Scarriff Ogonnelloe were first to score from free taken by Alva Rodgers in the 6th minute. This was matched with a point from play from Kilkishen Bodyke 2 minutes later but Scarriff Ogonnelloe's Labhaoise O'Donnell put them back in the lead with 2 points from play in quick succession. The teams battled back and forth but it was hard going with slippy ground and a wet sliotar that evaded many an attempt to grasp it. The next score did not come till the 24th minute with a point from free taken by Scarrif Ogonnelloe's Jennifer Daly. Kilkishen Bodyke responded with 2 further points coming from Aoife Ryan and a subsequent free taken by Caoimhe Kelly. The only goal in match was delivered in the 30th minute with lovely long shot in from Alva Rodgers. After 2 minutes of injury time the first half finished Scarriff Ogonnelloe 1-4, Kilkishen Bodyke 0-3.

A free in the first 10 minutes of the 2nd half taken by Jennifer Daly pushed Scarriff Ogonnelloe into a 5 point lead but Kilkishen/Bodyke's Leah Minogue narrowed the gap with a point from play. There was only a goal in it when Caoimhe Kelly landed another point from a free in the 24th minute but Scarriff Ogonnelloe went on to claim the last score of the match, with a point from their captain Alison McGee. It was without doubt a true test of character for both teams, who never gave up despite the chilly incessant rain. Scarriff Ogonnelloe having led from early on, underpinned by consistently strong defense from their right corner back Aoife Lynch, emerged the worthy winners with a final score of 1-6 to 0-5.
