Intermediate Championship
Fr Liam Murray Cup Final
Feakle Killanena 1-16 Clooney Quin 1-15
A thrilling encounter saw Feakle Killanena defeat Clooney Quin by the narrowest of margins in the Intermediate Championship Final on Sunday last on a scoreline of 1.16 to 1.15. Feakle Killanena won ball straight from the thrown in & Evelyn Duggan got a point with 30 seconds followed shortly by 2 frees from Lorna McNamara. Emma Considine followed shortly with a point from a free A point from play from Orla Duggan & a 45 from Ciara Grogan which was followed by 45 from Lorna McNamara left the score at the water break 0.04 to 0.03. Both teams battled hard for possession and there were some great passages of play throughout the field. Regan Conway and Vera Loughnane worked hard to supply ball to the forwards which ultimately ended with Lorna McNamara adding 2 more points & Robyn Conway rattled the net with an unstoppable shot. Clooney Quin replied with scores from Ciara Grogan, Deirdre Murphy and Emma Considine leaving the score at half time Feakle Killanena 1.08 Clooney Quin 7 points.
The second half started at an immense pace with Clooney Quin now on top and fired over 3 unanswered points. Feakle Killanena eventually found their rhythm again and with Louise Keehan, Robyn Conway, Lorna and Claire McNamara adding a point each the margin widened again. Evelyn Duggan and Zi Yan Spillane worked tiredlessly at mid filed. Clooney Quin put on constant pressure trying hard for a goal, but Ella MacNamara, Meave Brady, were solid in the full back line. Jodi Guilfoyle had at this stage entered the field of play and added an additional threat to the Feakle Killanena full forward line. There was heart stopping moments when on the 54th minute Feakle Killanena had the ball practically in the net but it was cleared from the line & went down field and almost ended up in the net but for Roisin Quilligans magnificent save. The work rate of all the players was amazing. Vera Loughnane & Regan Conway ably assisted by joint captain Aoife Tuohy were very solid in defence denying Clooney Quin any route to goal. Howwever with the game in injury time Aoibheann Duggan broke through that defence and finished to the net to leave a point between the sides just before the final whistle blew. There was sighs of relief and enjoyment as the recently combined club will enter the senior ranks in 2021.
