U15 League Finals
Div 1
Fr McNamara Park:
Inagh Kilnamona 2-6 Newmarket on Fergus 2-13
The dull and wet day had little or no effect on the teams taking part in Saturdays U15 Division 1 League Final. With both teams giving it their all, spectators were treated to a feast of Camogie.
Inagh Kilnamona were first out of the traps winning the throw in, working the ball down the field and pointing straight away. Newmarket pointed shortly after through a placed ball scored by their captain Jessie Hogan.
Moments later Hogan burst through the Inagh Kilnamona defence and struck the ball which blazed just over the bar to put the Blues one ahead. This would, however, be the only time Newmarket would lead in this half.
Inagh Kilnamona steadied the ship and through great teamwork racked up their scores with Shauna Queally scoring four points, Caoimhe Roughan pointing and the very lively Erica Wynne with two impressive goals.
Newmarket kept the scoreboard ticking over through Jessie Hogan and Kate Kennedy. The halftime score reading 2-6 to 0-7 in favour of the Combo.
The halftime talk certainly awakened something in Newmarket as not only did they hold the opposition scoreless in the second half, they also racked up fantastic scores through Kate Kennedy (goal), Jessie Hogan, Ella Woods and the second goal came through the very determined Sally Kelly.
Try as the might in the second half Inagh Kilnamona just could not break down the Newmarket defence as Julie Fitzgerald had her fullback line on lockdown and goalkeeper Avril Crowe was in great form between the posts.
Inagh Kilnamona had very strong displays from Alannah Foudy, Shauna Queally, Erica Wynne and Kate Dowling while Kate Jones, Kate Kennedy and Laura Mae Hannon impressed for Newmarket.
Final score 2.13 to 2.06 to Newmarket on Fergus.
