Littlewoods Irl Camogie League
Div 3
Clare 0-10 Tyrone 0-8
Mid Ulster Sports arena was the venue for the Clare Premier Junior teams game as they played the host County Tyrone in Round 2 of the Littlewoods league Division 3. On an overcast but dry afternoon Clare were first off the mark when Niamh Mulqueen won possession in mid field, found Sinead Power where the Inagh Kilnamona duly fired over a fine point on the 5th minute. Immediately from the puck out Clare were on the attack again when Orlaith Cotter delivered a pin point ball to Aisling McMahon who quickly released to Alisha Malone to slot Clare's second. Tyrone stared to press into the game after that score with the return of the Eglish players coming to the fore, Niamh McNulty scoring their first score from a 21metre free. Orlaith Cotter was proving to be a pivotal player for the Clare defence, thwarting the Tyrone attack. St. Josephs Aisling McMahon took Clare's score to three points with an opportunistic point but Tyrone replied with Aileen Fox setting up Eglish's Cathy Jordon to put only a point between the teams. A foul on Aisling Cahill by Tyrones centre back gave Aisling McMahon her second point and Clare's fourth of the match. The home team then began to dominate getting the next two scores from placed balls. Clare then introduced Corofin's Louise Browne to mid field who with Niamh Mulqueen drove Clare forward, where Whitegates Niamh Quirke was proving a handful winning a free. McMahon converted leaving the half time score Clare 0-5 Tyrone 0-4 with Edel McNamara making a vital save just before the half time interval.
On the resumption of the second half Clare moved three points clear when McMahon again put over two frees. But to Tyrones credit they continued to threaten with their running style of play resulting in two converted frees bringing the margin back to a one point game. Orlaith Cotter was giving a master class display in defence ably assisted by Rebecca Cahill and Orla Moloney. The games best score came when Jane Fitzgerald brought the ball out of defence passing the ball to Broadford's Mulqueen, who found Power on the 21 with her back to goal shot a vital point over her shoulder. This score spurred the Banner girls on to get a further two points. The last two points of the game came from Tyrone's Niamh McNulty.
Best for Clare were Orlaith Cotter, Jane Fitzgerald, Louise Brown, Aine Dinan and Aisling Cahill.
