Minor B Cup Final

Shannon Camogie

Clooney Quin 3-8 Broadford/Parteen 1-4

Clooney-Quin Banner were the stronger and hungrier of the two amalgamations in Shannon Camogie grounds in the Cup final.  Playing against  with the wind for the first half Clooney-Quin/Banner laid the foundation for the win with three first half goals a brace from Roisin Keogh and  the third from Elena Sanz.  All of this was as a result of strong team work and solid displays from the winners.  Broadford/Parteen were first off the mark with Annalee Marsh well marshaled into a point as the route on goal was closed off by Cliodhna Ryan. Sinead McGee dominated the Clooney centre back position while Derinn Finnerty for the winners came out on top at center forward. In packs the winners hunted every ball and hooked and blocked.  They created space and worked well for and off each other.  Broadford trying hard to get a foot in the game were stopped at every avenue and frustrated in their attemets to set up attacks as Moya Dunne, ELena Sanz, Aisling McGrath Leah Talty never let up on work rate. At the other end Cliodhna Ryan, Sinead McGee and Candice Brennan were not letting ball through and Emma Considine was solid in goal. Derinn Finnerty was a constant threat and her work rate and a brace of points from play in the opening half meant she had to be watched closely as she shut down the presence of Ali Troy for Broadford. AnnaLee Marsh did eventually get in for goal late in the half but this was sandwiched between two Sinead Considine points to negate the score.

The second half was a lower scoring affair, but, the work rate was just as high. Broadford/Parteen pushed hard to close the gap and had the opening two scores of the half through an Ali Troy free and Vanessa Killacky point.  However, as much as they tried through Emma Hall, Killackey, Susan O'Shea in the forwards the route to goal was shut down each time with two shots on goal well saved by Considine in goals and Candice Brennan sweeping up with Cliodhan Ryan and Dianna Carmody clearing the lines. Clooney-Quin had less scoring chances in the second half and with a few chances going wide they eventually pointed through Keogh and Finnerty, these were vital in keeping the pressure on. Broadford-Parteen kept working but CLooney-Quin/Banner were not in mood to give up their chance but Sarah Hall did squeeze a point from them.

Clooney-Quin/Banner were worthy winners on the night with many stand out performances and a strong team presence.

Minor C Cup Final

Fr McNamara Camogie Park

Tulla 2-14 Cratloe/Wolfe Tones 3-1

Fr McNamara Park saw the first every Minor Cup final take place last Friday in an entertaining match between Tulla v Cratloe/Wolfe Tones.  Both teams were hungry for the win but it was Tulla who came out all guns blazing and opened the score with a 45 from Bridin Dinan – this was followed by 2 points from play from Alex O’Sullivan and then Kaylee Cahill added another. Tulla were playing with the breeze and used this to their advantage with a well worked puck out from goalie Leah Molloy to Gillian Ryan to pass onto Bridin Dinan where she lobbed in a goal and followed this with another 3 points and Alex O’Sullivan pointed again from play to leave the score 1-9 to 0-0 at half time.

Cratloe/Wolfe Tones were not giving up and came out determined to get back into the match at half time which they did – straight from the start they pushed hard and Megan O’Connor hit the back of the net for a goal.  Tulla pilled on the pressure and with some great team play from Aoife Murphy, Aoife Floyd and Aoife Leydon in the backs to Aisling Dooley in mid-field who was awarded a free which was duly converted.  Once again Tulla came storming through the middle with Aoife Halpin, Kate Shanahan and Roisin Conway fighting hard to pass to Bridin Dinan where she sent in a bullet past the goalie.  Cratloe/Wolfe Tones made a few positional changes and from the puck out they managed to secure the sliothar and got back into the match by scoring 2 goals in quick succession followed by a point from a free. It was not to be their day however as Tulla hung on and put over a further point from play from Orna Mulconroy leaving the final score at 2-14 to 3-1.
