St Josephs 4-14 Feakle/Killanena 2-7

St Joseph’s kept their Intermediate championship dream alive with a comprehensive victory over Feakle/Killanena on Saturday evening.  A strong first half performance laid the foundation for this victory. It took until the 24th minute for Feakle/Killanena to register their first score, a well taken free from the stick of Regan Conway. A Robyn Conway goal sandwiched between Lorna McNamara points reduced the deficit to 6 at the break. St Joseph’s leading 1-9 to 1-3.

Feakle/Killanena stared the second half on a lively note and reduced the deficit to 5 with a Conway free.  Unfortunately Feakle/Killanena could not capitalize on this.St Josephs hit an unanswered 1-3 to extend their lead and two fortunate goals from long range deceiving Shauna Canny put this tie beyond doubt. Feakle/Killanena continued to battle bravely. A 21 yard free from Regan Conway raised a green flag. Junior A Championship

Corofin GAA: Corofin 2-13 Ruan 0-7

Local derbies are always keenly anticipated and the build up to this clash was no exception.  On this occasion the home team took their scores and deservedly ran out winners 2-13 to 0-7. Ruan started the stronger with a point a piece for Amy O’Donoghue and Louise McDonnell. It took Corofin a short while to settle and Aleisha Malone responded with 1-4 without a reply from Ruan and despite several saves by Alice Casey in the Ruan goal, Corofin continued to score freely throughout the half to lead by 1-6 to 0-2 at the break.  Corofin opened the second half with a goal from midfielder Louise Browne. Ruan's Amy O’Donoghue raised a white flag to add to her score from the first half. Over the next ten minutes scores were hard to come by as both teams worked hard defending. A free for Corofin's Aleisha Malone broke the deadlock, with Ruan's Louise Mc Donnell converting a ‘45 in the 39th minute. Ruan accounted for the next three scores but Corofin finishes the stronger team with three points from Aoibheann Malone, and a point apiece for Marie Rafferty, Louise Browne and Aleisha Malone to leave Corofin comfortable winners 2-13 to 0-7.

Junior B Championship

Eire Og GAA:

Eire Og 2-6 Scariff Ogonnelloe 2-4

Éire Óg earned their first points in Junior B championship on Thursday evening when they played host to Scariff Ogonelloes second string.

Éire Óg had the better of the first half with Rae Wall proving to be unerring from placed balls. Four pointed frees along with a Louise Kirwan point from play gave the townies a 5 point to 1 lead over the East Clare outfit at the half time break.

Éire Og got off to a blistering start to the second half when a well executed Aoife Warren pass found its way to Louise Kirwan, who finished to the back of the Scariff Ogonelloe net. The visitors rallied and a period of dominance saw them rack up a tally of 1-02 to bring them within two points of their opponents. Rae Walls 5th score from a placed ball gave Éire Óg a three point advantage which was quickly wiped out as Scariff Ogonelloe raised their second green flag of the evening to level matters.  This was followed with a well taken point, giving the visitors the narrowest of leads as the match headed towards its conclusion. Aoife Warren was also instrumental in Éire Ógs second goal as  gathered the ball from put near the sideline and finding herself running into trouble with the Scariff Ogonelloe defence,  laid it off to Leanne Russell. Russell made no mistakes as she sent an unstoppable shot past Rachel Daly to give her side a two point win on a final scoreline of 2-06 to 2-04.

Clonlara GAA:

Truagh Clonlara 8-9 Parteen 1-7

After receiving a walkover in Round 1 Truagh were an unknown entity coming into this game, whereas Parteen enjoyed a comfortable victory over Kilkishen-Bodyke in their opening match. However the strength shown by Truagh, today's hosts, in the Division 5 final versus Eire Og earlier in the year was still evident. A spine of experienced players supported by some young players such as Sadhbh Fennessy at wing back, Clodagh McNamara & Roisin Byrnes in midfield, made sure Truagh were in control throughout. Six different forwards got on the score sheet for the hosts which was telling as the Parteen defense were under pressure to go one on one with each, and the two player inside forward line suited Caroline Fitzgerald & Meave Donnellan in the opening half with Fitzgerald scoring a hat trick of goals in total. Young players such as Molly Fennessy and Leah Hawes at wing forward both scored 1-2 from play to add support to Niamh Power at centre forward as Truagh's chief free taker,  who to Parteen's credit, was only was gifted one scoreable free in the first half. Two of Parteen's scores in the second half were converted 45's ably taken by their freetaker - a reward from some sprightly attacks on the Truagh goal. Not enough though to make inroads on the Truagh lead, a comfortable one held through as Round 3 awaits on the weekend of 15-16 September. Truagh & Parteen will go in search of wins in their final games of the group in a fortnight's time to get through to the knockout stages.

Truagh: Liza Moloney; Tara Kirwan, Tracy Moloney; Sadhbh Fennessy, Cathy Halley, Josephine Clancy; Clodagh McNamara, Roisin Byrnes; Molly Fennessy (1-2), Niamh Power (1-2, 1-F), Leah Hawes (1-2); Caroline Fitzgerald (3-2), Meave Donnellan (0-1).

Subs: Aine Gully (2-0) for T Moloney, Roisin O'Connor for Halley, Louise Kavanagh for Donnellan.
