This was quickly followed by a point from play by Aoife Rodgers after a good passage of play right from the Crusheen full back line. Faye Dean converted a free to leave the Crusheen Girls 8 points up. The Crusheen half back line were in control at this stage and anything that crept in behind was ably dealt with by Hannah Gleeson and Aimee Colleran in the full back line and Caoilfhionn Perill in goal. Sixmilebridge nearly had a goal of their own with a great effort coming off the crossbar, with the rebound making it’s way out of the danger zone and back up the field. Crusheen added another goal to lead at half time 3-2 to no score. Crusheen started the second half where they left off with a point from play from Mary Hanrahan, followed by another pointed free from Dean. Sixmilebridge started to get to grips with their opponents resulting in Aoibhín McNamara putting 2 points on the board for the Bridge, one from a 45 the other from a free. Good work at midfield from Faye Dean and Ava Lyons meant that this was quickly cancelled out however with Crusheen raising another green flag. Sixmilebridge started to pile on the pressure and were rewarded with a goal by Kate Connelly. Crusheen added two more goals and a point to add their tally. Aoibhín McNamara pointed from a free for Sixmilebridge, it was to be the last score of the game. U13C Camogie Championship
Tulla v Parteen
Saturday August 25th, Tulla @ 3.45pm
Tulla 4-0 Parteen 1-1
At the same time that huge crowds were greeting Pope Francis in Dublin last Saturday afternoon, Tulla and Parteen were in the midst of a challenging encounter in sunny, warm conditions at Tulla's home ground. After a scrappy first few minutes, Tulla got into their stride and ten minutes into the game, a shot from Aoibhín Rochford saw the back of the Parteen net. An excellent puck out from Parteen was intercepted by Erica Maher. Assisted by Hannah Foley, the sliotar was back in the Parteen half with Aoibhín Rochford once again finding the net, giving Tulla a 2-0 lead early on. Moments later, Hannah Foley challenged the Parteen keeper but was met with a terrific block down by Parteen's No.1. Parteen showed immense determination in fighting back and a free to Parteen resulted in a point, with a goal following moments later. The second half began with a two point lead for Tulla. Parteen showed immediate, clear intent to bridge the gap. Tulla were under pressure and Erica Maher, Danara Crowe, Amie Ryan and Roisin Murphy were consistently called upon to defend the Tulla half. Leah McInerney, who was substituted early in the game due to injury, was sorely missed during this period of play. Caoimhe Egan and Georgia O'Brien did trojan work around mid field. Ten minutes later Aoibhín Rochford scored a third and her fourth followed moments before the final whistle which cemented Tulla's victory. Tulla gave away seven frees during a twelve minute period of intense pressure from Parteen. The final scoreline of Tulla 4-0 Parteen 1-1 does not justify Parteen's spirited performance. However, every Tulla team member made an excellent contribution, with this group of girls working together to emerge as victors.
On next to play Wolfe Tones in Shannon this coming Saturday in Round 3 of this Championship.
