U13A Championship :
Sixmilebridge v Inagh Kilnamona
Venue: Sixmilebridge
Tuesday, 4th Sept 2018
Full time score: Inagh/Kilnamona 4-3 Sixmilebridge 3-4
Inagh-Kilnamona started brightly but their forwards could not capitalise on their early possession. Sixmilebridge forwards displayed a greater sharpness and on their first two attacks added two points from Aoibhín McNamara and Hayley Keogh. Amy Chaplin saved Inagh’s chance of a goal and McNamara went on to find target at the opposite end after a great run through the visitors defence. Inagh-Kilnamona’s only score in the first half came from a Cliodhna Queally free late in the half. At half time Sixmilebridge led on a scoreline of 1-2 to one point.
In the second half the visitors got off to a better start with Grainne Burke rattling the ‘Bridge net. McNamara returned with one of her own for Sixmilebridge. Soon after she pointed from a converted free. It was a real see-saw game at this stage with Mary McInerney and Cliodhna Queally scoring a goal each and McInerney also scoring a point. The outstanding Aoibhin McNamara added her third goal this time from a placed ball where she blasted to the roof of the net. The delight was short lived as the visitors through Grainne Burke returned managing to get another goal past Doireann NíBhraoin. Aoibhin McNamara and Aine Longe exchanged points to finish up in favour of Inagh/Kilnamona.

Éire Óg v Smith O’Briens @ Éire Óg GAA 08/09/18 @ 11.30am
Match Report: Paul Nihill
Ref : Com McEldowney ( Clarecastle )
Half time score : Éire Óg 1-01 Smith O’Briens 1-01
Full Time score : Éire Óg 2-03 Smith O’Briens 2-02
Éire Óg maintained their unbeaten run in the Under 13 Championship following a last-gasp victory over an excellent Smith O’Briens side on Saturday morning.
On a grey day, the sides were evenly matched in the early stages with some superb defensive play from both teams ensuring that scores were at a premium. Both sides had wides from early plays before Smith O’Briens Rebacca Rodgers took the lead with a point from a well struck 45 in the 9th minute. The visitors continued to press the home side with Siobhan McMahon causing havoc in the Townies defence. It took some last ditch work from Irene Boateng and Elise Ryan to prevent McMahon from goaling before a superb save from Éire Óg keeper Niamh Davies resulted in a relieving free out for the home side.
Éire Óg were struggling to get a grip on proceedings as a stiff breeze prevented their clearances reaching the inside forwards, but, mid-way through the half, they began to come into the game. Successive wides from Ella Cahill, Annie Lynch and Shauna Faughey meant that when Cahill goaled in the 18th minute, it was the host’s first score of the day. However, Smith O’Briens replied just two minutes later when a Siobhan McMahon goal restored their deserved advantage in the 20th minute. Éire Óg replied with an Ella Cahill free in the 22nd minute and the teams went to the half time break level 1-01 apiece.
The second half began as did the first with excellent defending from both sides preventing either side from adding to their first half haul. Ella Cahill pointed from 25m in the 12th minute of the half to give her side a one point lead. The switch to midfield of Sarah Murphy helped her side gain the upper hand in this sector and Éire Óg’s forwards were beginning to work a lot harder than during the first half, as the visitors began to struggle to clear their lines. Excellent harrying from Ruth Nihill and Liadan Ni Ghlaisne led to a persistent spell of pressure from the home side but this possession was wasted with a succession of wides in conditions that began to worsen when heavy rain started to fall at the half way point of the second period.
This trend was finally broken with an Ella Cahill point in the 23rd minute stretching her side’s lead to two as the game ticked towards the end. Another home wide gave the visitors hope and they duly took full advantage. A wonder goal from Siobhan McMahon put her side in front, and from the resultant puck out she again gathered possession to strike an excellent point, giving her side a 2 point lead as the game headed into injury time. Play was halted for several minutes as an injury to Éire Óg’s Annie Lynch required treatment, and this break in play allowed the Townies to gather themselves for one last push to rescue the game. They say a two point lead is a dangerous lead though, and when play re-started Éire Óg worked the ball to Ella Cahill who struck the winning goal, giving her side a 2-03 to 2-02 win at the death.
It was cruel on the visitors though and it could be argued that they deserved at least a share of the spoils on the day. Éire Óg were very relieved at the final whistle and kept their unbeaten run intact by the slenderest of margins on a scoreline of 2-03 to 2-02.
Ella Cahill again led for the Townies and accounted for all of her side’s total. Defences dominated throughout on both sides and Irene Boateng, Elise Ryan, and Rachel Russell strongest for Éire Óg. Rebecca Rodgers and Karen O mahoney were outstanding for in defence for Smith O’Briens, while Siobhan McMahon led the way in attack and was a constant thorn in Éire Óg’s side right to the end.
