McMahon Cup Semi Finals

Fr McNamara Park: Truagh Clonlara 2-15 Kilmaley 2-11

Kilmaley's Caoimhe Carmody opened the scoring in the first of the day's Senior semi finals & within a minute Kilmaley had added a second. Roisin Begley opened the scoring for Truagh followed by a point from a placed ball by Laura Foley to level the match. Foley added two more points in as many minutes, a second placed ball and Foley's first from play after a pass from Eimear Kelly. Both teams conceded frees and Sarah Ni Cheallaigh dropped one short for Kilmaley which Truagh's Louise Egan won, clearing to her teammate Niamh Ryan, who took on the space that had opened up from the set up for Kilmaley's free, and goaled for Truagh. Truagh added a fourth name to the score sheet, with Aine O'Loughlin adding a point mid-way through the first half to open up Truagh's lead to 1-3.

Kilmaley came back into the contest at the start of the second quarter, Claire McMahon, team captain, converted a free and shortly followed with a converted penalty, after Truagh goalkeeper Liza Moloney picked up a yellow card. Truagh, however did not panic, Begley added her second point of the day with O'Loughlin also adding her second. Foley added another from a placed ball and sucker punch followed with Truagh's second goal, scored by O'Loughlin after a pass from Ellen Horgan. One of the scores of the day followed, Kilmaley's Sinead O'Keefe caught the ball cleanly from her own puckout soloed up the line and put the ball over the bar for a fine score from play. Kilmaley's goalkeeper Chloe McAleer pulled off two saves in quick succession, a shot from Kelly and a rebound shot from Ryan were both blocked by McAleer & the saves were followed by the Truagh forwards conceding a free out to Kilmaley. Foley & McMahon exchanged points from placed balls, the Truagh free earned Kilmaley's Rebecca Cahill a yellow card for persistent fouling, to close out the half with Truagh ahead 2-9 to 1-5. 

Kilmaley again were first on the scoresheet after a throw in when Grace Carmody was fouled, McMahon converted from 35 metres out. Truagh's Eimear Begley, county minor colleague of Grace Carmody's, then added her name to the list of scorers for Truagh. Kilmaley's McMahon won a free after being tripped in midfield, and Carmody was fouled once again from the resulting long ball - McMahon converted from the closer distance this time. Niamh O'Dea of Kilmaley got a ticking from referee Walsh for a tackle on the younger of the Begley sisters, Eimear, and Foley duly converted. After winning a puckout with a clear catch, Truagh's Roisin Powell was penalised for a throw ball allowing McMahon to add to her tally of converted frees. Both teams conceded frees and had some errant shooting to leave the game scoreless from the 39th to the 47th minute until Clare McMahon scored a point from play. Shortly after Truagh were dealt a blow when full back Sinead Ryan had to be carried from the field due to an injury which seemed to unsettle the east clare side. Niamh O'Dea for Kilmaley showed all her experience when launching an attack and a took a long range shot on goal catching Truagh's defence off guard,found the back of the net, to narrow the gap to 2 points with 5 minutes of ordinary time remaining. Clare's senior forward Eimear Kelly had yet to score but found her radar at the right time just when her team needed it,  putting over two points from play , either side of another free from Foley who was excellent on placed balls throughout the day. Truagh's Michelle Powell picked up a yellow card to provide Kilmaley's McMahon with a chance to narrow the gap to four points, which she rightfully took,  with four minutes additional time announced by the referee. Deep into injury time McMahon, also excellent from placed balls, put a free over the ball to leave just one score between the sides. Roisin Powell & Kelly combined to clear a late free awarded to Kilmaley, clearing to O'Loughlin who was fouled by Kilmaley's full back Rebecca Cahill, red carded for her tackle. Foley deservedly converted the free for the insurance score to put Truagh 1-1 ahead with time up.

Fr McNamara Park: Scariff Ogonnelloe 2-14 Inagh Kilnamona 2-11

Inagh Kilnamona and Scarriff Ogonnelloe met yet again at semi-final stage in the Senior Championship at Fr McNamara Park on Saturday evening.

The first half was a tough affair with Inagh Kilnamona getting the upper hand.  Six points from the stick of Aoibhinn Ryan, a goal in the twelfth minute of play from Clare Commane and points from Sinead Power and Clare Hehir left the half time score 1-8 to 0-5 in favour of Inagh Kilnamona. 

It was all to play for in the second half with Fiona Lafferty's long-range strike finding the back of the Scarriff Ogonnelloe net.  This was cancelled out quickly when Scarriff Ogonnelloe worked the ball forward and put one past Rebecca Keating.   Fiona Lafferty added to her tally as did Aoibhinn Ryan.  However, Scarriff Ogonnelloe continued to find scores through Mairead Scanlon, and it was looking more like extra time would be needed.  However, Scarriff Ogonnelloe 's sustained pressure paid off when the sliotar took a deflection and found the back of the Inagh Kilnamona net.  Inagh Kilnamona fought hard in the dying minutes to level matters with Helen Hehir shot hitting the side netting.   Final score Inagh Kilnamona 2-11 Scarriff Ogonnelloe 2-14

While this was a great team performance Fiona Lafferty gave a player of the match performance, Laoise Ryan was excellent throughout.

Sixmilebridge GAA: Newmarket on Fergus 2-8 Feakle Killanena 3-10

Feakle Killanena qualified for the Senior Shield Final after dominating in the second half against Newmarket in Sixmilebridge on Saturday afternoon.  

Newmarket led by the minimum at half time but a much more clinical second half from Feakle Killanena saw them take the win on a scoreline of 3.10 to 2.08.

Both sides started a little shaky , both registering early wides in the opening minutes.

However, Zoe Mc Inerney's radar was tuned in when she registered 1.01 for the Blues in the following 2 minutes.

Lorna McNamara pointed twice for Feakle Killanena to get them off the mark before a great clearance from Carol O Leary set Laura McMahon up for a point with 12 minutes on the clock. 

Feakle Killanena took over in the second quarter and not only registered 1.03 but also kept Newmarket scoreless for twelve minutes, Shauna Canny with a great display at centre back.

Ellen Casey and Lorna McNamara exchanged points before a pinpoint pass from Niki Kaiser put Kaci Toomey through on goal and she blasted to the net seeing the sides level. Laura McMahon tagged on a point from a placed ball to put Newmarket one up at half time in a game where not an inch was being given by either team. 

Feakle Killanena had the better start to the second half scoring 1.02 in the opening 6 minutes . The Newmarket backs were under all kinds of pressure but an exceptional display from Carol O Leary at full back and Maeve Begley in the corner made Feakle Killanena earn any score they registered.  

Three further points from Laura McMahon and one from Niki Kaiser kept the score board ticking over for Newmarket but Robyn Conway, Lorna McNamara and Roisin McMahon for Feakle Killanena weren't finished yet and added another 1-2 to their tally.

Eire Og GAA: Kilkishen/Bodyke 1-14 Sixmilebridge 1-9

Kilkishen/Bodyke were first to get onto the scoring board with a point from Nollaig Baker when she scooped up a ball destined for the net from the stick of Caoimhe Kelly but saved on the line & cleared in the opening minute of this Glenomra Shield Semi Final decider. Sixmilebridge soon cancelled this with a point from Hannah Wilson ..A brace of unanswered points from Kate O'Gorman, Siobhan Lenihan, Kate Lynch and Rebecca Burke put their side with a comfortable four points lead at the break 0-9 to 0-5.The first green flag of the afternoon was raised when O'Gorman shot to the net when she doubled on the rebound when a free shot from Lenihan came off the upright.

Sixmilebridge raised their green in the dying minutes with a shot from Olivia Phelan but it just wasn't enough and Sixmilebridge die out of this years senior camogie & the afternoon sees Kilkishen/Bodyke progress to this years Shield Final

Tulla GAA: Whitegate 2-13 Clarecasle/Ballyea 2-17 (AET)

After a heavy defeat in the group stages, Clarecastle/Ballyea were looking for a different result this time round in the Semi Final against Whitegate on Saturday afternoon in Tulla.

In a well contested game Clarecastle/Ballyea sealed a place in the County Final against Tulla in two weeks time.

Extra  time was required to separate the sides.

Clarecastle/Ballyea started well with the opening point from Ria Flanagan. In the 7th minute Whitegate rallied through the Clarecastle/ Ballyea defense for the first green flag of the game. 

The Amalgamation replied with two unanswered points from Hannah Mai Neylon and Ria Flanagan. Soon after Aideen Hickey had her first point from play for Whitegate.

Clarecastle Ballyea won possession with great passing from their forwards, Doireann Murphy to Hannah Mai Neylon who put the ball between the post to put them ahead by 2 points. As both sides battled hard Clarecastle Ballyea finished out the half the strongest outscoring their opponents six points to four leaving half-time score Clarecastle/Ballyea 1-9(12) to Whitegate 1-6 (9)

At the start of the  second half Clarecastle/Ballyea hit the first pointed free from Doireann Murphy. Whitegate started their fight back scoring five unanswered points, and few missed chances. Clarecastle Ballyea did not panic and added two points from play from Emma O'Donoghue. A point at the other end taken from a free from Whitegate's Susan Fahy left the full time on level terms 1-12 apiece. 

In extra time Cc/Ballyea had a point from play from Doireann Murphy, Whitegate responded with a goal. As both sides exchanged points Whitegate had a one-point advantage after the first 10 minutes.

In the final ten minutes Cc/Ballyea scored a pointed free from Doireann Murphy.The crucial score came in the 12th minute when substitute Evie Scanlon struck for her sides second goal which saw them take the lead by 3 points.Despite Whitegate replying with a point, Clarecastle/ Ballyea had the final two points to give them a four point win.

Others to impress for the winners were Amiee Wiley, Emma O'Connell, Carol Browne,Fiona Breen and excellent saves from goalie Brooke McInerney, while Whitegate had strong performance from Triona Kelly, Niamh Quirke, Laura Solon.

Inagh Kilnamona and Scarriff Ogonnelloe met for a second day running in Fr McNamara Park, this time for the Junior A Semi Final on Sunday, 2nd October.  Inagh Kilnamona brushed off the disappointment of losing out on Saturday to win on a score of 0-13 to 2-5.

Inagh Kilnamona opened the scoring with a free in the second minute from Patricia Coote.  It was a close contest throughout with no quarter given from either side.  Scarriff Ogonnelloe took the lead in the eleventh minute when the sliotar found the back of the net.  Inagh Kilnamona struck back when Cara McInerney's  puck out was driven onto her sister Mary who split the post.  Scarriff Ogonnelloe got their second score three minutes later when their midfield drove forward pointed.  Coote and Queally continued to find space in mid field and Inagh Kilnamona benefitted by putting five score on the board (Elisha Rynne (0-3), Patricia Coote (0-2 (1f)).   Karlene McGerr and Elisha Twomey were solid at half back and Scarriff Ogonnelloe struggled to make headway.  Half time score  Inagh Kilnamona 0-7  Scarriff Ogonnelloe 1-1.

Scarriff Ogonnelloe opened the scoring of the second half with a free to leave two between the sides.  Coote and Rynne continued to cause trouble and were rewarded with a point apiece.  Scarriff Ogonnelloe pulled one back from a placed ball.  Caitlyn McInerney cancelled that out with a well taken score.  There was four between them in the seventeenth minute when Scarriff Ogonnelloe got their second goal to leave just one in it.  Tara Rynne converted two frees to stretch the lead to three.  Scarriff Ogonnelloe again pulled it back to two in the 27th minute.   Scarriff Ogonnelloe were awarded a penalty for a late challenge.   Patricia Coote, no stranger between the posts, had settled herself when Danielle Sheedy made the journey up from her goal to take the penalty.  Coote who was exceptional throughout saved a well struck shot and was fouled when clearing the ball.   Cara McInerney struck a long relieving clearance.  Rynne converted her third free of the half to leave three points in it.  Scarriff Ogonnelloe piled on the pressure and were awarded with a point in the thirty second minute on the clock.  There were two between the sides when Ger Hoey blew the final whistle.  Full time score Inagh Kilnamona 0-13 Scarriff Ogonnelloe 2-5.

Whilst this was an excellent team performance from Inagh Kilnamona Patricia Coote, excelled.

Fr McNamara Park: Parteen 2-11 Crusheen 2-16

This was a superb thrilling talented Junior B final from start to finish in Fr.Mc Namara Park. From the throw in both Crusheen and Parteen applied all the pressure against each other and both teams showed talent and never give up attitude during this game. Parteen took the lead with a free taken by Aisling Cooney. Shortly, Maeve Stankard put Crusheen with a point on the scoreboard. Anne Marie Mc Mahon pointed two placed balls for Crusheen to leave score Crusheen 0.03 to Parteen 0.01. Shortly Maeve Millea for Parteen found the net to leave score 0.03 to 1.01. Following on, Lauren O’Driscoll pointed for Parteen to be shortly followed by Grace Gleeson’s determined effort of finding the net for Crusheen leaving the score 1:04 in favour of Crusheen and Parteen 1.02. Faye Dean for Crusheen showed great athletic strides during the game as did Maeve Stankard tapping over to points from play and Anne Marie Mc Mahon for Crusheen tapping over 3 more place balls. Half time score – Crusheen 1.09 Parteen 1- 05.

In the second half, both teams again showed skill, grit, battle and determination to win this junior b final.Grace Gleeson for Crusheen tapping over points from play, Aisling Cooney for Parteen tapping over placed balls,attacking for goals that narrowly went wide, and Anne Marie Mc Mahon for Crusheen and Aisling Cooney , both showing how it is done to take a goal. Solid backs for Crusheen prevented Parteen finding more goals, while Crusheen showed many a tackle to narrowly hit the cross bar throughout the game.Final score Crusheen 2:16 , Parteen 2:11

Every player from Crusheen gave it their best. For Parteen, Aisling Cooney and Lauren O’Driscoll and Maeve Millea showed great leadership
